Located in the old Hobart Fire Brigade’s 1911 Head Station, the Tasmania Fire Museum houses a collection of the state’s fire-fighting history, including a hand-drawn fire pump from 1826. The Tasmanian Fire Museum was formed in 1979 with the aim to conserve all aspects of Tasmania’s fire service heritage through the acquisition, restoration and interpretation of fire service artefacts. As a volunteer brigade of the Tasmania Fire Service, the Museum draws its membership from serving and retired, career and volunteer Tasmanian fire service members. This means the curators you will meet at any of our display sites, will have had “hands on” experience of the appliances and other artefacts you will see.
